Matty Bovan is a 2015 MA Graduate of Central Saint Martins in London. His MA Collection was a 12 piece show stopper. The designs were a mix of multi-colored glittering knits mixed with sculptural, abstract silhouettes that were produced with non-traditional techniques. For this stunning collection, he was awarded the prestigious L'Oreal Professional Prize. After graduating, he won the 2015 LVMH Graduate Prize and went on to hold a junior design position at Louis Vuitton. He also, developed prints for Marc Jacobs, mannequins for Miu Miu, and styled photo shoots for LOVE magazine. Matty debuted his label at London Fashion Week with his Spring/Summer 2017 Collection. The Collection was inspired by himself. He gave us a selection of designs that were hand-knitted, graffitied, hand-painted, the main hue was neon, and they also included shimmery mesh. And don't forget his signature abstract make-up looks that adorned every model and the headpieces made by Stephen Jones. Matty believes that craftsmanship is now more important than ever and makes sure that every element of each of his designs is touched by hands. Because of this and his enormous talent, in 2017 Matty was nominated for British Emerging Talent in Womenswear by the British Fashion Awards.
This past year Matty collaborated with Stuart Vevers at Coach on a collection of logo print bags with Matty's artwork. And then his Spring/Summer 2019 Collection was pure joy with a bit of luxury thrown in. The collection included multi-layered, puffed-up, crinolined gowns, knits, jumpsuits, jackets, dresses, and some of the models carried the Coach bags. Matty Bovan is a designer that excites you and has you wondering was he is going to send down the runway next. I believe this is his true talent of having everyone guessing, much like Alexander McQueen used to back in the day. Make sure you keep an eye on Matty as he is going to be around for a while.
