Evian Li

PARSONS MFA FASHION DESIGN - SPRING 2020

Chinese designer Evian Li's thesis collection dives into the aspects of her past. For her designs, she tapped into specific memories from her childhood that holds a sacred place. She specializes in knitwear that used different techniques to create a story through texture, weight, and layers.

Her process uses clear and unclear knitting as the base, rubbing and screen prints represent the second layer, and ceramic is the final layer which is stable and tangible, yet a precious and fragile detail — the romanticization of memories are exposed through these techniques. Li's thesis contrasted heavy and translucent knits mainly in black and white but in a wide range of fabrics.
